Green IT with cost savingsPosted: May 20, 2009
I have been working with a client (www.greensnapper.net) on promoting a cost saving green IT solution. The solution has minimal network impact and only costs a fixed $1 per PC per month. The value is in reducing PC power usage by 50%, which equates to more than $1 per month. What I do not get is the hesitation that CIOs have. Everyone should be screaming to get it… its a no brainer!!!
One reseller said that its hard to sell a green argument in a down economy. I said how about selling immediate ROI and cost savings, with a green PR benefit?
With servers that must run 24/7 the major cost (power) savings are in newer chips and in virtualization. With PCs it is power usage optimization and wake-on-LAN.
